John is CJSTC certified firearms instructor. He started in law enforcement in 2002, and has been an instructor for more than nine years. John has served as a patrol officer, and an entry team member on the SWAT team. John has also been an avid competitive shooter for more than 16 years, amassing numerous class and division wins across the country competing in the US Practical Shooting Association. He won the Florida State USPSA Championship in 2010 and placed 16th in the Nation that year. He continues to compete in various disciplines utilizing handguns, rifles and shotguns, and strives to incorporate what he learns from competitive shooting into teaching self defense and tactics. John is a helicopter pilot and transfered from SWAT to the Aviation Unit at a local Sheriff's Office, but, continues to instruct as a lead instructor. He brings a competitive shooting edge to the defense tactics taught at Talon. John teaches our USPSA Introductory classes and many of our Advanced Classes with JD and Mitch. He is instrumental in developing curriculum and is a well spoken and patient instructor.
